Your favorite opera expert John Frey will be enhancing your enjoyment of the upcoming New York Met Opera Season Broadcasts that will be shown at the PAC at Cal Poly.  LLCC is sponsoring John's previews for each of these operas prior to their showings in the theater venues. The previews will be a discussion of the plots and characters that will prepare you to better understand and enjoy these new MET productions.

Tosca

Tosca is an intense political thriller occurring in less than 24 hours. Baron Scarpia has long lusted after Rome’s diva, Floria Tosca, and when he suspects Tosca’s lover, Cavaradossi, of assisting an escaped political prisoner, he seizes the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

When Cavaradossi is captured, Scarpia offers Tosca a horrific bargain – she must give herself to Scarpia, or her lover is killed… what will she choose, and who will survive?

Soprano Anna Netrebko, whom the New York Times hailed as “magnificent” when she made her role debut as Tosca in 2018, returns as Puccini’s explosive diva, back by popular demand. Bertrand de Billy conducts Sir David McVicar’s stunning production.Sung in Italian with English, German, Spanish, and Italian subtitles.
