Since its June 2016 enactment, medical aid in dying has helped thousands of terminally ill Californians who’ve opted for Death with Dignity.

When then-California Governor Jerry Brown signed the End of Life Option Act into law in 2015, it became only the fourth state to legalize medical aid in dying for people living with a terminal illness. Since its enactment in 2016, amidst the steady and gradual emergence of Death with Dignity laws around the country, it has emerged as a beacon of hope for patients and advocates alike.

In this course, presented by Susan Quinones, you will learn about the California law called The End of Life Option Act. Attendees will be introduced to the basics of the law in California and its eligibility requirements for individuals. Information will be shared on how to access it locally.

The instructor will review the current statistics for who are using this law and how many people over the last years have used it. Most importantly, class participants will hear about what to expect if a person is thinking about using these medications to end their life.

There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions as this important topic is explored.

Susan is a registered nurse, living in San Luis Obispo, who has been working in Hospice and end of life care for over 16 years. In addition to her Hospice work, she also serves as a bedside attendant for those utilizing Medical Aid in Dying. She has presented numerous community speaking engagements on topics about the end of life and is passionate about providing education regarding aging and death and dying.
